ESPN gets Spanish La Liga rights…

LINK
Well, ESPN is setting themselves up to have a quality soccer lineup for the upcoming season. They have reached a deal with GolTV to share the rights to coverage of La Liga.

As of right now, ESPN2 will carry at least 20 games – all of which will likely be either Real Madrid or Barcelona games.

This means that ESPN2 will likely carry both editions of El Gran Clasico – the matchup of Real and Barca, which is widely considered to be the most watched soccer game in the world (and possibly the most-watched sporting event every year).

In addition to the games on ESPN2, ESPN Deportes will now be showing live La Liga games.

Lastly, the majority of the season’s games will be available on ESPN360.com.

Don’t be surprised if ESPN slowly begins to pick up more soccer packages in an attempt to promote their exclusive coverage of World Cup 2010.
