Bradley adds 7 to roster

Bob Bradley has added these names to the US Gold Cup roster:

  • Brad Guzan
  • Sacha Kljestan
  • Benny Feilhaber
  • Jonathan Bornstein
  • Michael Bradley
  • Conor Casey
  • Jozy Altidore

They will not likely play in the group games, but will probably get some time in the semifinals (should we qualify).

Frankly, I’m pretty bemused by the continuing allegiance to Kljestan and Casey, neither of whom belong anywhere near the USMNT.

I would have liked to see Feilhaber and Altidore with the team for the group games, though, as they need more game fitness.

Publishing note: I’ll try to get the striker profiles up tonight.

  1. Ugh. That’s all I have to say about these choices.

  2. I don’t understand why any of these guys have been brought in.

Casey & Sasha shouldn’t even be there.

M Bradley’s spot is safe and he just played the Confed Cup. What’s to gain? Other than experience for the tougher matches?

We’ve all already seen how Bornstein played against top level competition – teams better than anything in this tournament.

I’m assuming Altidore, Bradley, and Benny have been brought in for the advanced stages. I just hope BB gives the new pool some legit playing time. We already have seen some of these guys play. Talk about a huge training camp.

  3. I think Bradley was brought in to serve any suspension for his “confrontation” of the referee after the Spain game before Mexico. He will be needed there. Otherwise, this list is just a waste of players. Especially those who have been away from their teams for over a month already- like Casey, Sacha, and Bornstein, who don’t deserve to be here anyway.
